Parents’ role in their Children’s exam preparations

Parents plan a very important role in the preparation of their children for examinations.  They need to be the ‘friend, philosopher and guide’ to their children. Parents can motivate and encourage their children in the preparation for the exams. This will help the children stay focused on their goal. An important skill that has to be taught at this time is the time management skill. Children can be taught how to best manage their time. There are many things that the children have to do apart from studies. They need proper rest, exercise and time to relax. Children can be taught how to balance all these with the primary focus being studies. A time table for daily activities will be of great help. Guiding children on what activity they need more time and which means they have to learn how to prioritize their tasks.

Parents can give the much needed emotional support their children. The time when exam are nearing is when students come under lot of stress and anxiety. This is where giving a ear to their thoughts would help to reduce stress. Try and get to know as to what the child is anxious about and help them find ways to overcome them. These situations are when children identify their strengths and weaknesses. It is crucial for them to overcome their weaknesses and make the best use of their strengths. This makes them feel more confident, also very important that parents teach their children to set realistic goals for themselves. Not every child can equally do well in all subject.

Parents can provide the necessary resources to enable the children to study better. Apart from the text books they can guide them how to access the best online resources for preparing better. They can provide them with tutors if necessary. Children can get in touch with teacher or classmates to clarify their doubts.

Parents can track the progress of their children by monitoring their output, to see if they are on the right track. They can check their progress by giving them regular tests. Checking where they need to put more effort and guide them.

As we can see from the above points Parents play a very important role in the success of their children during preparation for the exams. So go ahead and provide support, encouragement, and resources to your children so that they can develop the skills and confidence they need to perform well in exams and achieve their academic goals.
