Roles and Responsibilities as a Counselor
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly compassionate and skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team in the role of Telephone Counselor. As a Telephone Mental Health Counselor, you will provide professional counseling services to individuals in need via telephone. You will play a crucial role in assessing clients’ mental health needs, providing appropriate interventions, and offering support and guidance. This remote position requires excellent communication skills, strong clinical knowledge, and the ability to provide empathetic counseling over the phone.
Responsibilities:
Conduct telephone counseling sessions with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, and stress management.
Assess clients’ needs through active listening, empathy, and effective questioning techniques to identify underlying issues and develop appropriate treatment plans.
Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to each client’s unique circumstances, following ethical guidelines and best practices in mental health counseling.
Establish rapport and build a therapeutic alliance with clients to create a safe and supportive counseling environment.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to privacy regulations.
Collaborate with other mental health professionals and refer clients to appropriate resources when necessary, such as psychiatrists, support groups, or community organizations.
Requirements:
Must have:
Empathetic listener with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients remotely.
Prior experience in providing counseling services, preferably with a focus on telephonic counseling.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate empathy, compassion, and support over the phone.
Good to have:
Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and evidence-based interventions for mental health disorders.
Organizational and time-management skills to effectively manage a caseload of clients.
Knowledge of relevant legal and ethical guidelines, including client privacy and confidentiality regulations.
Nice to have:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
Counseling experience in multiple Indian languages will be an added advantage.
State licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, or eligibility to obtain licensure/certification.
Proficiency in using technology for telephonic counseling, including videoconferencing platforms, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and other communication tools.
